Foster Home Information ***To fill out this form*** 1) Save it to your computer. 2) Open it with notepad or a similar program, fill it out and save the resulting file. 3) Attach the file to an email message and send it to us at: newhoperescue@hotmail.com If you are interested in being a foster home provider for New Hope Dog Rescue (NHDR) this is the process you can expect to be involved in. You will be asked to fill in a foster care volunteer application form and sign a foster home contract. New Hope Dog Rescue will arrange for a home check (this means someone will visit you in your home). NHDR coordinators will contact you with further information and answer any questions you may have. When NHDR receives a rescue dog we will refer to our foster care list and determine the best match of foster home and dog. The foster home will be contacted and we will pass along all information that we have on the dog (remember with some dogs there may be no information available). We will arrange for the dog to be moved to the foster home ASAP. We will arrange a time for spaying/neutering and vaccination of the dog. NHDR will cover the costs of spay/neuter operations, vaccinations and of any further medical care that is required. NHDR will provide any donated food supplies to foster homes. In the event that donated supplies run out, NHDR greatly appreciates if the foster home is able to provide food for the rescue dog in their care. Once in a foster home we allow the dog some time to settle in with the foster home so a more correct assessment of the dog can be established. The time line will depend on the dog. Ideally we like rescues to spend whatever time they need with a foster home until they are stable and prepared to make the adjustment to a new home. Once the dog has received necessary care and training and is ready for adoption NHDR will begin the process of searching for a new home (minimum 1 week in the foster home). If someone contacts an adoption coordinator expressing interest in their information will be passed along to the foster home. The foster home knows the dog best and can answer questions better than the adoption coordinators (see adoption process for more information). The adoption coordinators will deal with necessary paperwork and requesting a home check on the potential adopters. The foster home can arrange for the potential adopters to visit and spend time with the dog. When travel distance prevents this, home and reference checks with the potential adopters will be arranged by the adoption coordinators. The foster home should be prepared to provide all information about the dogs? personality, nature and health to the potential adopters. If the adoption moves forward a trial visit will be arranged for the dog to go to the new home. We want our foster homes to be involved in the process of re-homing and will strive to maintain regular contact with foster homes that are caring for a rescue dog. Foster homes are an important part of rescue. We want our foster homes to feel that they can contact NHDR coordinators at any time with their questions and concerns. This will allow us to place an appropriate dog into your care, a dog that will fit in with your lifestyle. Many rescue dogs have not been treated well or feel insecure due to lack of a stable environment. Foster dogs will need some basic training, socialization with people, dogs, and household living, possible housetraining, and definitely lots of love and TLC. New Hope Dog Rescue (NHDR) will cover all medical expenses as long as it is affordable and donated food can be provided. We appreciate if the foster home can provide food for the rescue dog.
